'Britain In Bloom' judges to arrive in
Southport! Report and photo by Patrick Trollope.
SOUTHPORT is getting ready to show off its colours as
green fingered volunteers take to the streets ahead of the Britain.
In Bloom judges arrive in Southport on Friday, 5 August 2016, and a dedicated
team of gardeners have been out watering plants, putting new flowers in and
pulling weeds on both Lord Street and the Promenade, to name just a few
locations. The hope is that Southport will once again sway the judges to award
it the Britain In Bloom title.
The annual Britain in Bloom is a nationwide gardening campaign that aims to
transform Cities, Towns and Villages into a clean and brighter place for locals
and tourists alike. The campaign started in 1963 by the British Tourist Board
and is now a very sort after title. This year our blossoming streets will be
judged not only on the look and colour of the displays, but also on the overall
tidiness of the area. Thus, help the horticultural volunteers and if you spot
any rubbish on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, please put it in the bin, if safe
to do so. If you own a business in Southport, you can also help! Add a bit of
buzz and colour by putting some flowers in your windows! It will definitely look
nice from outside and will also add some positive vibes within your workforce!
(As long as none of your colleagues suffer from hay fever).
Please let us if you can help the volunteers on Lord Street, though the donation
of plants and other items, like gardening tools, via emailing our newsroom at:-
