30 foster carers wanted for
City youngsters
LIVERPOOL is launching a drive to
recruit 30 new foster carers to care for the City's young people as part of
Foster Care Fortnight. The campaign runs from 1 June to 14 June 2015, drop in
events are being held for people to find out more about looking after children
in care; and hear direct from social care staff, foster carers and young people
in care about what the role entails.
The events are being held at 30 James Street Hotel, in the City Centre from 10am
to 4pm on:-
► Wednesday, 3 June 2015.
► Monday, 8 June 2015.
► Tuesday, 9 June 2015.
The City Council has also arranged special thank you events on Monday, 1 June
and Tuesday, 2 June 2015, which will see hundreds of existing foster carers
treated to afternoon tea at 30 James Street to say thank you for their amazing
work in looking after the City's children.
On Wednesday, 3 June 2015, the Lord Mayor Cllr. Tony Concepcion will put on a
small reception at the Town Hall, at 10:30am, for some extra special foster
carers who have devoted much of their lives to helping young people in care as
well as a fostering social worker who is retiring.
Councillor Roz Gladden, Cabinet member for Adult and Children's Social Care and
Health, said:- "Our team of foster carers do an amazing job providing a
loving home for some of our most vulnerable children but when it comes to
recruiting new carers we find there are still lots of myths and people rule
themselves out when in truth they might be ideal. Our message is that foster
carers come from all sorts of backgrounds and all walks of life and what matters
most is that you are able to help care for our children in a safe and loving
environment. There are several different types of foster care available, and
it's not always about committing to have a young person for a long period of
time. For example, we have many children who just need some respite care away
for a few nights."
In addition, a series of drop in sessions are also being held across Foster Care
Fortnight at the following venues, including Children's Centres and Cunard
Building in the City Centre:-
► Monday, 1 June 2015, from 10am to 2pm, at the Granby
Children's Centre.

► Thursday, 4 June 2015, from 10am to 12:30, at the Stoneycroft Children's
Centre and 11am to 1pm Cunard Building.
► Friday, 5 June 2015, from 10am to 2pm, at the Belle Vale Children's Centre.

"I wanted to
get in touch regarding a local head teacher Paul Dickinson from Archbishop Beck
Catholic Sports College, Liverpool, who is getting behind a national call for
teens to make the most of their summer, following research that shows how school
holiday activities can positively impact performance at school. Did you know
that the average teenager expects to get bored by day 18 of the summer holidays
and half of teenagers wish there were more opportunities to try new activities
and experiences during the summer holidays. Research reveals teens plan to spend
an extra 84 hours in bed this summer and more than 44 hours taking selfies. The

Photographs by David Jones Photography
AUDIENCES are guaranteed to have a ball
this Christmas as Regal Entertainments are delighted to announce they will be
bringing the enchanting tale of Cinderella to the stage for another panto
extravaganza. Coming to
St
Helens Theatre Royal this
festive season from Friday, 4 December 2015 to Sunday, 10 January 2016 and

2014's Jack and the Beanstalk broke box office records and was the theatre's
most successful panto to date, and this year is set to be even bigger with a
sensational line up bringing the nation's favourite pantomime to life; including
Coronation Street's Marc Baylis and Benidorm star and Theatre Royal favourite
Crissy Rock.
Every panto needs a villain and this years is a real Christmas cracker! Most
recently seen as bad boy Rob Donovan in ITV1's Coronation Street for which he
was nominated as 'Best Newcomer' at both The National Television
Awards and the Inside Soap Awards, Marc Baylis swaps the cobbles of Coronation
Street for the centre stage at Theatre Royal. Marc starred in Bromley Churchill
Theatre's 2014 panto Sleeping Beauty as Prince Charming, but this will be his
debut playing a panto villain, starring as the evil and dastardly Dandini; get
ready to boo and hiss.
No stranger to treading the boards, Marc's extensive theatre credits include the
UK tour of Hamlet, The Belle's Stratagem for Southwark Playhouse and Prick Up
Your Ears for Comedy Theatre as well as seen on screen in hit shows including
Misfits, EastEnders and Hollyoaks.
Excited to be coming to St Helens, Marc Baylis said:- "I'm very much
looking forward to appearing in panto at the Theatre Royal and spending
Christmas entertaining audiences of St Helens. Cinderella is going to be great
show so bring the whole family and join in the festivities."
Theatre Royal favourite and star of ITV1's 'Benidorm' as acid
tongued 'Janey York' and 'I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of
Here'; Crissy Rock is delighted to be back this Christmas as 1 of the
Ugly Sisters. No stranger to playing the panto baddie, Crissy starred as the
Wicked Queen at The Epstein Theatre, in Liverpool, back in 2013.
Leaving audiences on the edge of their seat in fits of laughter earlier this
year as the 'Mum in Rita', Sue and Bob Too! as well as other past
Theatre Royal productions Escorts:- 'The Musical and Dirty Dusting',
Crissy is back to bring plenty of fun and laughter to the stage.
Laura Gregory, Jack Rigby, Simon Foster, Ben Engelen and Charlie Griffiths all
join Marc and Crissy to complete this year's cast.
Last seen waiting for her Prince to rescue her from eternal slumber in Regal
Entertainments 2015 Easter panto Sleeping Beauty, Laura Gregory returns this
Christmas in the title role as Cinderella. Laura has plenty of experience in
panto land with previous roles in Aladdin and the title role in Snow White.
Every girl needs her Prince Charming and Jack Rigby certainly fits the bill.
Making his stage debut at age 11 in Our Day Out at the Neptune Theatre,
Liverpool, Jack has since gone on to appear in the ITV drama Mobile and the BBC1
series Waterloo Road and is certain to charm Cinderella and audiences this
Christmas.
Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo, bringing a touch of sparkle and magic to this year's
production is St Helens' resident dame Simon Foster who will be on hand to give
Cinders a helping hand to get her happy ever after, starring as Fairy Godmother
adding his hilarious comic wit and 1 liners that have made him so popular year
after year. Keeping things fresh and new, this will be the first time that the
role of the Fairy Godmother has been played by the dame!
Playing Buttons the loveable friend to Cinders is Theatre Royal's very own
workshop trained Benjamin Engelen who stars in upcoming Theatre Royal crime
comedy caper The 39 Steps this July, as well as Regal Entertainments 2013's
smash hit production of Bouncers - The Remix and in Liverpool Empire's 2014
Christmas panto Aladdin.
Its double trouble this year, as completing the line up as the 2nd Ugly Sister
and desperate to make Cinders' life as miserable as possible alongside Crissy
Rock is Charlie Griffiths, who has starred in past Regal Entertainments
productions including:- 'The Ciggie Run' and 'The Wizard of
Oz'.
Cinderella tells the story of a beautiful girl who is reduced to a life of
servitude by her 2 ugly step sisters, but that is all set to change when an
invitation to a grand ball at the palace arrives. With a bit of magic and some
help from her friend Buttons, Cinderella is transformed in to the belle of the
ball. But what will happen at the stroke of midnight?
With real Shetland ponies, enchanted pumpkins, sparkling glass slippers, Prince
Charming, ugly step sisters and a Fairy Godmother to make audience's dreams come
true; be sure to book your tickets early for the most lavish panto in all the
