Annual Service held to pay tribute to
Holocaust victims!
ON Sunday 25 January 2015, victims of the Holocaust were
remembered at a special service held at Christ Church, on Lord street,
Southport. The event, was held at the nearest weekend to the 70th Anniversary of
the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and death camp, that was
marked internationally on 27 January 2015. As with The theme for Holocaust
Memorial Day 2015, that was 'Keep the memory alive', Southport
also kept that theme going. The event was extremely well attended, but sadly the
shadows of persecution still loomed, as outside Police stood guard following
resent events through out the world. In the service was a multitude of ages,
faiths and religions... Taking part in the service where Mr M.P. Braham DL,
Student Rabbi Kath Vardi, Bill Esterson MP, Students from KGV and Runshaw
Collage, Pupils from Sefton Primary School, Sefton Unison, Mayor of Sefton,
Counculor Kevin Cluskey, Rabbi Ariel Abel, Revd. S T Reid, Holocaust Fellow
Pauline Collier and the Sefton Council Chief Executive Margaret Carney. This was
done via the passing on of memories to the youth of today and having them
perform talks and reading at the service. This event helps to teach the next
generations about the consequences of persecution and the horrors of genocide,
that sadly still goes on in some parts of the world. But it it hoped that events
like this will not only keep the memory of those who died alive, but will also
act to one day prevent it ever happening again. For more information about the
annual national commemoration day in the UK go to Council of Christians and Jews
