New recruits join force to
Lancashire Constabulary
LANCASHIRE Constabulary's newest
recruits have officially become part of the force after taking part in the 1st
attestation ceremonies of the year.
Warrant cards were handed out to 59 new officers at the ceremonies, which came
after Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw and Chief
Constable Steve Finnigan opened up external recruitment for brand new PCs last
year.
The new officers; who made their attestations over 2 nights last week; are now 2
weeks into their initial training, which will see them shadowing Police on the
streets of Lancashire, being trained in investigative interview techniques and
undertaking Crime Scene Investigation training.
The Commissioner said:- "It has been several years since Lancashire
Constabulary was able to open up recruitment externally, and the demand the
force received from people wanting to join was phenomenal. All of our new
officers have done exceptionally well to make it through the recruitment
process, and I now wish them the best of luck as they embark on their initial
training. They should be very proud of themselves. The roles they will play in
Lancashire will be vital, they will be responsible for keeping the public safe,
upholding the highest standards of honesty and integrity and representing
Lancashire Constabulary in our communities. I hope they will all be a real asset
to the force."
19 of the new recruits have already studied a Foundation Degree in Policing at
the University of Central Lancashire and will undertake a 3 week
"bridging" course, while the remaining recruits will complete a full 21
week training course.
They will then spend 10 weeks working with a Tutor
Constable before being assessed and signed off for independent patrol.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Bates said:- "The Constabulary looks
forward to welcoming this intake of new recruits. They are a vital part of
Policing our communities going forward and will be deployed to areas of greatest
risk and threat throughout the county. The new officers are high in enthusiasm
and will support the front line and will be visible within local communities
working with local people focusing on the areas that are important to them."
Before they are officially confirmed in post, all new officers are required to
complete a 2 year probationary period which includes an additional 3 development
courses at the Constabulary's Hutton HQ.
CCTV appeal
following fail to stop at RTC in Wallasey
MERSEYSIDE Police have
released CCTV footage following a fail to stop road traffic
collision in Wallasey on Saturday, 17 January 2015. The incident
happened at around 3.10pm, when a 69 year old man was cleaning his
car, which was parked on Newton Road. He was stood in the road with
his back to oncoming traffic when he was in collision with a car,
which then failed to stop at the scene. The victim suffered a
fractured pelvis and 2 fractured ribs, as a result of the collision.
He was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries and is now
recovering at home. A report was made to the Police and Officers
from the Matrix Serious Organised Crime Roads Policing Unit attended
at the scene. CCTV from the area has been located and reviewed and
an investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the
incident is continuing. Constable Bryan Watts from the Roads
Policing Unit said:- "The collision left the victim in
complete shock and with a number of serious injuries. Thankfully, he
has been discharged from hospital and is now recovering with his
family. The CCTV we have issued appears to show a car, possibly a
silver Skoda Fabia estate, colliding with the victim and we would
appeal for the driver of that car to come forward so that we can
speak to them and establish exactly what happened. The footage also
shows a number of vehicles which pass by the incident immediately
after it happened, including a distinctive white hackney cab. These
drivers may have information which is vital for our investigation
and I would appeal to them, or anyone else with information, however
small, to get in touch with us as soon as possible." People

Rail Delivery
Group responds to passenger figures
RESPONDING to new
regionalised rail passenger
figures from the Office of Rail
Regulation, a spokesman for the Rail Delivery Group, which
represents Network Rail and train operators, said:- "There is
more to do to make Britain's railway even better, but new and
improved services combined with good value fares are attracting more
passengers to travel by train. Passenger numbers have almost doubled
since the late 1990's contributing to a fivefold increase in money
being returned by operators to Government for investment in a better
railway."
