Southport pub gets a very
intimate solo performance by Mark Morris...
Photographs by Patrick

THE local pub on Cable
Street in Southport is getting back to providing good old live
music for the Town. So much so that over the last few months
they have even built a stage for musicians to perform on. One of
the latest artists to play at the Ship and Anchor was a singer
songwriter who famously made his name fronting English Indie
outfit, The Bluetones',
Mark
Morriss.
Mark, who has just
celebrated his 43rd Birthday, he played to a packed out pub, on
Friday, 24 October 2014. For his fans this was a fantastic
opportunity to get close and personal with him. Many had
travelled from far and wide, with some staying over in the
town's B&B's after travelling from down South, other came from
Chester and even Manchester. As many locals know, the venue is
not massive, so many who did arrive late could not get in, so it
goes with out saying that if the venue had been bigger, it would
still have been packed out! But for those who did see him in
this very intimate performance space, he truly entertained them.
To us, his performance was a credit to him, as the close
proximity of an audience to a performer of his calibre can be
extremely intimidating as they are often not accustomed to big
audiences in big venues. Those attending got the chance to see
him play and to hear his second solo album:- 'A Flash Of
Darkness', that is out now, being performed live! He
also took feedback from his fans. It was not just Mark who
performed that night though, as promoter Dan Morrison, from
EndOfEntertainment, had organised special guests, Robert John,
Hollow Earth and Darren Leonard to warm the fans up. All of them
performed brilliant sets, giving the place lively and rocking
start before Mark took to the stage.
