Teddies at the ready for
55th Anniversary Garden Party
ST Joseph's Hospice will open up
its beautiful Hospice Gardens to the local community for a special:-
'55th Anniversary Garden Party' that is set to be held on Saturday,
8 July 2017.
The Hospice's famous Teddy Bears Picnic and Teddy Parade will kick off the
afternoon from 1pm so don't forget your picnic or your teddies!
The event is free to attend and there will also be a 'Teddy Treasure
Hunt' and entertainment throughout the afternoon, including:- music,
performances, stalls and games.
Refreshments will also be available with a BBQ and afternoon tea being
served in the garden as well as a prosecco bar for the grown ups and ice
cream, candyfloss and popcorn for the kids and big kids alike!
Towards the end of the afternoon, there will be a Reflections Service at the
Hospice's Pool of Remembrance and an opportunity to visit the Stations of
the Cross.
Julie McAdam, Senior Community Fundraiser at St Joseph's Hospice, said:-
"We have expanded our usual Teddy Bears Picnic this year in to a very
special Garden Party to celebrate our 55th Anniversary so we want to invite
as many people as possible along on 8 July 2017, to enjoy a fun filled
family afternoon. It's such a beautiful place and our community is so very
important to us. At the Hospice, we provide specialist end of life care for
over 200 patients from our local community every year and, as a registered
charity, we need to raise ₤6,850 every day to keep these services running.
This means that events like our Garden Party are vital and your support is
incredibly valuable to us. Why not bring a picnic, along with your family
and friends, and enjoy the 12 acres of beautiful woodland and gardens which
surround the Hospice in Thornton? The event is entirely free and we hope you
have a fantastic afternoon."

Loaded handgun recovered
in Norris Green
MERSEYSIDE Police have informed us that
a loaded handgun was recovered in Norris Green, in the afternoon of Friday, 5
April 2017 and a male from Stockbridge Village. Merseyside Police said that at
around 3.35pm, patrols in Sovereign Road, Stockbridge had stopped 3 men, 1 of
whom was suspected to be in possession of cannabis. Following a search, cannabis
and a loaded handgun were found. The firearm has been seized for forensic
examination. 20 year old, Ryan Dawson, from Stockbridge Village, was later
charged with possession of a firearm. Dawson was kept in custody and appeared at
Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Remand Court, Liverpool, on Monday, 8 May
2017. A 19 year old male, from Croxteth, was also arrested on suspicion of
possessing a firearm and possessing cannabis, along with a 23 year old male,
from Kirkdale, who was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm, have both
since been released under investigation. |

Local funeral firm
celebrates 190th Birthday
A family run funeral directors in
Liverpool is celebrating its 190th Anniversary, making it 1 of the oldest
independent firms in the community.
Dean Brothers started in 1827 when Ellis Dean, a wheelwright by trade, began
hand making coffins and supporting with funeral arrangements at the local
Church, in the Village of Formby.
His son William moved the premises to its current location at Gores Lane and
the firm traded as a builders and funeral directors in what was then a small
village. William's sons, Ellis and William, formed Dean Brothers with the
firm officially registered in 1946.
Now in its 7th generation, the team of 7 is run by Peter Dean, his wife
Joyce, daughters Sharon and Samantha, and Iain Dean as the only independent,
family owned funeral directors, in Formby, Merseyside.
The firm has undergone several extensions and refurbishments over the years
to improve the facilities on offer to the public, but still maintains its
traditional funeral services with a caring and dedicated approach.

charities with fundraising and provides a free digital service for members
of the public to search local churchyards and cemeteries for family graves.

their community. The firm is also a longstanding member of the National
Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF), which represents
over 870 independent, often family run, funeral directors across the
country.
