WHAT an amazing event! This year's Formby Festival
is like the old Formby Show, for those who remembered it, but without the
massive arena and large tents. The event was held over 15 July to 17 July 2016
and has proven to be extremely popular. It offered all who went a good family
safe environment, and attracted not only locals, but people from all over the
Merseyside and Lancashire area too. We even met a few from Wales and even
Macclesfield this year! From live acts, like... Bo Dermott from Britain's Got
Talent, Anna Corcoran who was recently nominated:- 'Female Artist of the
Year' at Liverpool Music Awards, to the massive Katumba Samba Band, plus
many others, making the main stage a high note! Also on Saturday Night, the sky
light up with fireworks as well! That's not forgetting other events and
activates, including:- dog displays, face painting, crafts, magic shows, circus
school, inflatable's, climbing wall, archery, along with a rodeo bull! The
Paintballing was also a huge success, raising over £1,200 for their charity.
Also attending for a short time was Miss Liverpool 2016,
Molly
Mcentee-Morris,
who took time off from her last minute preparations for the
Miss England contest. Other VIPs spotted
included a few football legends; sadly we did not come across them... Please let
us know if you spotted the football royalty. Of course, it would not be a food,
drink and music event if it didn't have any food activities; so unsurprisingly
there were even cookery classes, taken by James Holden, who is a member of the
Royal Academy of Culinary Arts Association, a very illustrious group. That's not
forgetting the very entertaining and extremely talented Aazam Ahmed, who has
made numerous appearances on TV. The event once again raised cash for Help for
Heroes, as its main charity, but it also had several local charities and related
groups taking part, inside the event. "We had over 10,000 people of
all ages from very young to the more mature attend this event and everyone
appeared to enjoy themselves. Whilst the full count has not yet been done, based
on the information we currently have over £10,000 has been raised by the various
charities attending the event including our nominated charity Charlie's Last
Chance, so a big thank you to everyone of the public who came and supported the
event, without who the charities would not have raised so much money. If any
companies would like to be involved next year in sponsoring or supporting the
event or any bands / singers would like to perform then please contact us at:-
formbyfestival@gmail.com, our planning starts now for next year. We
would like to thank Waitrose, Churchills Retirement, One Vision Housing, Formby
Tool Hire and Formby Parish Council who have all supported this event and in
particular provided volunteers to help run the event." commented a
member of The Festival Committee after the show.
