2016 will see Creamfields unveil it's most ambitious production concept ever as they introduce the Steel Yard superstructure. Taking 12 months of planning and constructed exclusively for Creamfields the Steel Yard is the first and largest of its kind in Europe, with a capacity of 20,000 and reaching 20m high, this living, breathing behemoth redefines festival production as we know it.

Featuring newly developed automated technology that will transform the space immersing festival goers into a feast for the senses and allowing you for the first time to get up and close and personal and be part of the production. Last year they set the standard on festival production and this year they've raised the game once again, this is just the first of a series of all new production announcements to be unveiled for this year's festival.

homson Airways return to Liverpool as 'Summer Season Holiday Flights' get underway

THIS week saw passengers depart on holidays to Majorca with Thomson and First Choice for the 1st time in 7 years following the 1st departure of Thomson Airways' summer 2016 weekly flight to Palma from Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Local Thomson travel agents helped to put passengers in the holiday mood by being on hand to welcome them to the start of their holiday at airport check in handing out a variety of giveaways including free children's meal vouchers for use in the Airport's Frankie and Benny's restaurant in the departure lounge. The fun continued with a special airport celebratory cake and ribbon cutting ceremony ahead of the 1st passenger boarding the aircraft.

It was just over a year ago that Thomson and First Choice announced that they would be offering the region's holidaymakers the opportunity to travel on holiday with them to Majorca for Summer 2016 from Liverpool for the 1st time since 2008. Over the past 12 months, bookings from Liverpool have sold so well, that the tour operator announced last month that it will be expanding its Liverpool programme for summer 2017, by adding a further weekly departure to Palma, in addition to new weekly services to Ibiza and Tenerife. Flights for summer 2017 are on sale now.

New cycling route to serve popular business park

A new cycling route is being created to serve a popular business park near Skelmersdale. Highways England is building a new cycle scheme over the M58, providing a safer travel option for commuters from Skelmersdale to West Lancashire Investment Centre; a major business park south of the motorway.

The scheme involves widening the footpath to accommodate pedestrians and cyclists, improving pedestrian crossing facilities and installing new signs and safety barriers on the bridge which carries the A5068 over the M58 at Junction 4.

The project is one of 19 cycling schemes across the North West due to be completed later this spring to make it easier for cyclists to use major A roads and cross Motorway Junctions.

Project Manager Phil Tyrrell said:- "Cycling is growing in popularity both for commuter and leisure riders, as people look for ways to improve their health and reduce their impact on the environment. The improvements we're making on the bridge will make it easier and safer for cyclists to cross over the M58, travelling between Skelmersdale and a popular business park."

To support the work on the bridge, night closures will be required on the M58 between Junctions 3 and 4 to install and remove safety measures.

These are scheduled to take place between 9pm and 5am on:-

► Monday 9, Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 May
► Saturday 21, Sunday 22, and Monday 23 May

Highways England is carrying out over 200 cycling projects across the country over the next 5 years after the government set up a £100 million dedicated fund for cycling in its Road Investment Strategy.

More than 40 schemes have now begun and are set to be completed this spring. Work will continue on the remaining projects between now and 2021.

The schemes will provide new cycling facilities which are safe, separate from traffic and can be used by cyclists of all abilities.

The 1st phase of the cycling programme will see cycle lanes and crossings created or improved at 7 Motorway Junctions in the North West, and improvements will also be made on major A roads in the county.

The investment in cycling schemes supports the government's ambition to encourage walking and cycling so that it becomes normal for short journeys or as part of a longer journey.

Tramway and Light Railway Society - Merseyside Branch AGM and Talk

ON Monday, 16 May 2015, in The Smithtown Room, of The Greenbank Sports Academy, on Greenbank Lane, Liverpool (L17 1AG), at 7.30pm, the Merseyside Branch if the Tramway and Light Railway Society will be holding the groups Annual Gennral Meeting. This will be followed by followed by a talk by Arthur Dawson who will talk about about modelling in G-Scale. He will also show the progress he is making on his current model of a Ghent PCC tramcar. A selection of scale models will be on display and it is hoped to have some in operation. There will also be an opportunity to purchase tramway publications at very reasonable prices, proceeds from which will go into branch funds of the registered national charity (No. 272961). Refreshments will be served during the interval. Entrance is just £2.00. per head. Non-members always welcome, but please note that you will not be able to vote during the formal proceedings.
