New lifts for Formby Station
A £1.6million scheme to provide 2 new
passenger lifts at Formby station is now under way.
Due for completion in late summer, the lifts will give step free access from the
booking hall to the platforms, offering modern passenger improvements to the
historic station building.
The scheme has been jointly funded by the Department for Transport (DfT) Access
for All programmes and by Merseytravel and will be the 9th Station in Merseyside
to benefit from DfT funding.
Cllr Liam Robinson, Chair of Merseytravel said:- "These improvements can
make a real difference to disabled passengers, those with limited mobility and
people with children and pushchairs, and go a long way to helping us provide an
accessible network for everyone. The 'Access for All programme' was
launched to address issues faced by disabled passengers using railway stations
across the country and we are pleased to have been successful in securing this
funding to continue progress on the Merseyrail network."
Transport Minister Baroness Kramer said:- "Making our rail network more
accessible is central to our plans to build a stronger economy and a fairer
society. The work at Formby will transform journeys for passengers, and I am
pleased it is now underway. We are investing record amounts in building a
world class railway, and by the end of 2019, we will have spent more than
£550million improving accessibility at more than 200 stations around the UK."
Alan Chaplin, interim managing director of Merseyrail, concluded:- "We are
committed to making the customer experience easier, more convenient and more
pleasant, and this goes for all our customers. Throughout the network, we
already have in place robust procedures for passengers with disabilities, but
these new lifts at Formby will be a real boon for those who use this station."
Witness appeal after wallet stolen from Huyton
Railway Station

Transport Police Officers have released a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak
to after a wallet was stolen from Huyton Railway Station before an attempt was
made to use one of the debit cards it contained. The wallet was stolen at around
2.30pm on Tuesday, 3 February 2015. Investigating officer PC Adam Burgess said:-
"The victim had dropped his wallet at the station where it was picked up
by 2 men. 1 of the victim's debit cards from the wallet was then unsuccessfully
used at a Co-Op store in Wavertree. We believe the man in the image may have
vital information about the incident and we would urge him or anyone who
recognises him to come forward and get in touch with BTP. Any information could
prove vital to our investigation." Anyone with information is asked to

Have your say on the future
of the City's green and open spaces
A series of meetings is about to start
to give local people and organisations the opportunity to express the views
about the future of Liverpool's green and open spaces.
They have been organised by the newly established:- 'Strategic Green and Open Space
Review Board', which has been set up by the Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, to
look at the future of the City's green and open spaces.
The Board is chaired by actor, TV presenter and environmentalist Simon O'Brien
who, along with other board members, will engage with the public and any
business or organisation with an interest in open spaces.
Simon said;- "We know Liverpool people are passionate about their parks,
play areas and other green and open spaces and we want them to have their say
about their future.
We are on the lookout for ideas and suggestions which will help us to advise the
City on how to preserve the long term future of some of the region's most
cherished spaces at a time when there is dwindling resources. This is not just
an issue which affects Liverpool. With pressure on the public finances of every
Town and City throughout the region and across the country there will be a lot
of interest in Liverpool as we gather evidence and grapple with this hot topic.
I would urge people to come to the meetings and let us have their views and
ideas as they could well influence how green and open spaces develop in the
years to come."
The first meeting is on Tuesday 10 March (6.30pm to 8pm) at the Southern
Neighbourhood Council, Upper Mann Street, Liverpool 8.

Update - Day of Action - South Liverpool
MERSEYSIDE Police have confirmed that 2
of the people arrested on Thursday, 5 March 2015, following the execution of 9
warrants as part of a day of action against those believed to be involving in
serious and organised crime in Liverpool South have been charged with possession
of a Class B drug. Mohammed Alselwi, 31, of Little Heath Road, Speke has been
charged with possession of a Class B drug and has been bailed to appear at
Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Monday, 23 March 2015. The 17 year old arrested
has been charged with possession of a Class B drug and he has been bailed to
appear at Liverpool and Knowsley Youth Court on Tuesday, 17 March 2015. The
other 7 men arrested have been bailed pending further enquiries. The underwater
searches in Princes Park are on going at this time.
