Charity boost
for Woolton groups
VULNERABLE people in Southport will be able to enjoy a Christmas
feast surrounded by others this year thanks to a donation from
Yorkshire Building Society’s Charitable Foundation. The Society’s
branch in Southport nominated the St Vincent De Paul Society to
receive a donation of £700 to pay for a Christmas lunch for 70
people as well as new crockery and decorations.
Joanne Delooze, customer consultant at the Southport branch, said:-
“We recently made a small donation to the St Vincent De Paul
Society through our Make A Difference campaign. When they came to
collect the money I discovered they needed more help so I put them
forward to the Charitable Foundation. The Charitable Foundation is
funded through the Small Change Big Difference scheme which allows
members to donate the pennies from their annual interest on savings
and mortgage accounts each year. I’m sure they would be proud to
know that the Foundation is helping such a worthwhile cause this
Christmas.”
The Christmas dinner will be served up at St Patrick’s Parish Hall,
on Marshside Road.
Marlene Dobb, of the St Vincent De Paul Society, said:- “As
well as serving Christmas meals to people who would otherwise be on
their own, we also offer them a free transport service and deliver
meals to those who are housebound. Our chef and all the helpers on
the day are voluntary and I can’t thank them enough for their
support because without them we wouldn’t be able to do this. I’d
like to thank the Charitable Foundation and those who contribute to
the Small Change Big Difference campaign for their kind donation.”
In 2013, over £545,000 was donated from the Charitable Foundation to
a total of more than 2,300 good causes around the UK. |
