The Woodvale Transport Festival is revving up to become another great show
Photograph by Patrick Trollope

THE Woodvale Transport Festival returns to Victoria Park this summer with another packed programme of attractions to entertain all the family. Organised by Woodvale Rally, the event takes place at the park on Saturday, 21 June and Sunday, 22 June 2014.  General manager Peter Wood, said:- "This is our third year at Victoria Park and we have found it to be the perfect venue for the festival with its excellent layout and facilities. The event is a great value day out which truly caters for all the family. We look forward to welcoming the crowds once again this June."

Back by popular demand is the thrilling and original 'Wall of Death' Ken Fox Troupe World Tour. This unique show first appeared in the UK in 1929. Today there are only two Walls of Death, which are 1 of the last great live shows travelling today. Ken Fox is recognised as the World's leading Wall of Death rider and has numerous television appearances to his credit, including Heartbeat and You Bet.

International motorcycle stunt rider Steve Colley will also be back to thrill the crowds. Steve is the 3 times world, British and Italian champion, from the Isle of Man, will be performing 2 stunt filled shows on both days. He is the only performer in the world to do stunt's on a motorcycle with the front end completely removed, this is a show not to be missed.

Steve who is now aged 42 year old, who gave up competitive riding 5 years ago to start his worldwide stunt show, will be performing stunts never seen before on new bikes and rig from Spain. He received his 1st dirt bike at the age of just 6 and always wanted to be a sportsman.

He said:- "I'm ecstatic to be coming back to Southport. It must be 5 years since I was there when the show was at RAF Woodvale so I'm looking forward to performing at the new venue. I love what I'm doing and visitors to the show won't be disappointed. They will be blown away with some of the stunts you wouldn't think possible."

Festival general manager Peter Wood said:- "This is the only chance people will get to see Steve in this part of the world this year. His stunts and tricks really have to be seen to be believed and we understand he has a new breath-taking show for our festival this year."

Show-goers will enjoy a fun-filled weekend with other attractions including rides, giant slides, craft fair, new food marquee, water boats for adults, car boot, flea market, martial arts displays, look-a-likes, Morris dancing, land train and numerous trade stands.

There will also be the usual classic and vintage cars (main competition on the Sunday), car clubs, model trains and boats, stationary engines, classic and vintage motorcycles and clubs. This year £250 will also be up for grabs for both the best dressed car club and motorcycle club stands.

The festival will also offer free entertainment for children with Punch and Judy, circus skills and balloon shaping. In addition a larger animal petting area has been included and also back this year is the popular dog display team.

Also entertaining the crowds throughout the weekend will be a selection of bands including Mike Byrne and the Sunrockers and Laurel and Hardy look-a-likes will also be spotted around the showground performing magic tricks.  A picnic area will also be located next to the bandstand and the Rotary Club will run the bar.

Other good news is that free parking will once again be at Princes Park, where admission tickets will also be sold. At the gate they cost £5 a day for adults, £2 for children aged 6 to 16 and the under 5s are free.

Tickets can be obtained in advance and are available online with postage paid at £8 for the 2 days.  Also public camping is available on site and costs just £50 for 3 nights, although numbers are limited.   Applications and payment for camping and trade stands can be made online or by cheque to be returned with a stamped addressed envelope to:- Woodvale Rally, PO Box 30, Southport, PR9 9ZN.
