New Traditional
European Food and Craft Fair
THE Ormskirk Town Centre
will come alive with the tastes, smells and products of Continental
Europe and beyond; when the Traditional European Food and Craft Fair
arrives in this Historic Town. Bringing a lot of produce and
products that are new and different, the fair will be in town on
Sunday, 13 April 2014. The Town Centre will be transformed
into more of a bustling market place than ever before, as the
marketers build on the success of their visits in earlier years.
Market organiser Olivier Simonin says:- "We have new
professional continental market traders from France, Belgium, Italy,
Spain, Holland, Poland and many more countries who will be wearing
traditional costumes, selling high quality products including
Brittany biscuits, olives, Italian nougat, delectable cheeses,
sausages, tartiflette (a delicious cheese and potatoes dish from the
Alps), charcuterie, fresh bread, and croissants! This year, we have
some new exciting stalls: German salami, Finnish crafts, Peruvian
handicrafts, Italian macaroons and Paris handbags. As well as all of
these delectable tasty goods, you will also be able to choose from a
wide range of products including handbags and leather items,
Marseille soaps, lavender, children’s toys and pashminas! There
really will be something for everyone! Most of the products on sale
will come from each stall holder’s region, where they are produced
by small organisations such as, family businesses, farms or small
factories using traditional methods, maintaining a high standard of
quality! All of the traders will also wear their traditional local
costumes from 100 years ago, as well as decorating their stall to
represent the region of the country they come from. The market will
therefore provide you with a true flavour of the continent.”

Schools
encouraged to raise money for charity
SOUTHPORT schools and
colleges where asked over March 2014 to host a variety of
fundraising activities in aid of charity. BIBIC, which helps
children with conditions affecting their social, communication and
learning abilities, is encouraging schools and colleges to fundraise
for it. Geoff Cummins, Chief Executive for the West Country
based national charity BIBIC, explained:- "We know schools and
colleges often raise money for charity so we’re asking them to
consider BIBIC when choosing who to donate to. There are lots
of great, fun ways a school can raise money for us. They could host
a non-uniform day or a themed fancy dress day or why not host a
summer fete? Pupils could also take part in sponsored walks, runs or
swims. One of our favourite ideas and one we think lots of
pupils would enjoy too, is a pupils versus teachers sports match."
BIBIC is a registered charity that
receives no government funding and relies on support and donations
to provide the life changing help needed by many children and their
families. It helps children and young people aged from 6 months to
18, with conditions affecting their development and learning
abilities to achieve their potential for a happier and more
fulfilled life.
These include developmental
conditions such as Autism, Cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome,
Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and brain injury. Geoff added:- "We
have a great fundraising team here who are always happy to help with
ideas and anything a school or college needs. Any schools or
colleges interested in raising money for us should call our
fundraising team on 01458 252339 or email us on fundraising@BIBIC.org.uk."
The charity, which is based in Somerset, has a national assessment
centre located at Langport. Its therapists work closely with
families to create a therapy programme, which provides them with the
skills and strategies to support their child or children.
