"Y.E.S.S"
event is a Success
ON 26 November 2013, the JCI Liverpool held an
event called:- "Y.E.S.S" that stands for "Young
Entrepreneurs taking Steps to Success". The event was held
at Liverpool law firm, Hill Dickinson.
JCI Liverpool was organising
the event in collaboration with leading representatives from
business and politics, including the Lord Mayor of Liverpool Gary
Millar and Max Steinberg CBE. Kai Graf von Pahlen, who is a
Solicitor at Hill Dickinson and President of JCI Liverpool, said:-
"This event was put on by professionals, especially young
professionals, the opportunity to take their goals to the next
level. All where volunteers who want to give back to the community.
We had a dynamic range of speakers who we hope encouraged delegates
to develop strategies for succeeding in what they do. In addition to
the training sessions, there was also a free dinner for the
delegates, kindly sponsored by Mayur Restaurant. We are organised
this event to also raise money for the Liverpool Lord Mayor's
Charity Appeal, so a small administration fee of £2 was taken from
each delegate, together any donations received." If you do
not know what the JCI Liverpool is, well it is part of Junior
Chamber International, the leading global network of young
professionals, present in more than 100 countries with almost
200,000 members across the world, offering its members opportunities
in networking, training and volunteer work. JCI's mission is to
provide development opportunities that empower young people to
create positive change. If you want to know more about the JCI and

Fraudsters
Threaten Air Ambulance Donations
THE Air Ambulance
Service (TAAS) is calling upon its supporters and potential
donators to be wary of rogue collectors posing as a Charity.
The Charity is concerned that vital income could be lost as a
result of companies that carry out fraudulent activities and try
to trade on the Charity's good name and reputation.
Worried about the effect that bogus clothing collections will
have on its donations at the most important time of the year,
Chief Executive Andy Williamson said:- "Christmas
donations of money and clothing are crucial to our service and
yet we now have to worry that criminals are distributing bogus
bags that try to fool people into thinking they are giving to us
when they are not".
TAAS has recently received several reports of a hoax Charity,
simply calling themselves "Air Ambulance Service",
sending out collection leaflets (pictured above) nationwide and
encouraging people to donate to them.
These hoax leaflets ask people to donate unwanted items such as
clothing, and provide a phone number and website address, but do
not include a registered charity number. The phone number
provided is no longer in use and the website clearly states that
the service is a 'scam'.
The company originally responsible for distributing these
leaflets was caught out and closed down by the High Court over 2
years ago. The company's directors were subsequently prosecuted.
At the time, it was believed that over £1 million was extorted
from the public by rogue collectors claiming to be from Air
Ambulance Charities. However, these leaflets appear to be in
circulation once again, with reports of deliveries to addresses
throughout England.
The Air Ambulance Service would like to make it very clear that
this "Air Ambulance Service" is a hoax Charity
and, despite adopting a very similar name, is in no way
affiliated with "The Air Ambulance Service".
These misleading leaflets have a serious and detrimental impact
on the Charity's recycling operation and public image. Andy
goes on to say:- "As a Charity, we are extremely concerned
that this will affect our legitimate collections. We would
encourage everyone to please check the bags and make sure they
support a true air ambulance Charity. Criminal activities like
this put people off from donating which, particularly at
Christmas time, can be devastating for a small Charity like
ours."
TAAS is the umbrella organisation for 2 Helicopter Emergency
Medical Services (HEMS):-
►
Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA) and
Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA).
►
They also run The Children's Air Ambulance (TCAA),
a national Charity that transfers critically ill children and
babies from hospitals to Paediatric Intensive Care Units across
England and Wales.
► The Charity receives no Government
funding, relying entirely on public support to keep its
helicopters flying and its crew saving lives on a regular basis.
► The Charity operates every day of
the year, including Christmas Day, and needs to raise over £3
million every year to keep each of its services running.
TAAS is currently in discussion with the Police and Trading
Standards about this new wave of rogue leaflets.
TAAS's collection bags clearly state which Charity the
collections are going to and also include the Charity's
registration number. For further information, please call:-

They came, they
drummed and they conquered!

A staggering £5000 has been raised so far by
Batala Liverpool who were drumming up support for the Philippines at
the weekend in Liverpool. Thousands of Christmas shoppers stopped
and danced and joined in the fun and threw their donations into the
buckets.
"The atmosphere was fantastic. Liverpool was packed but everyone was
so supportive and accommodating. People were dancing along with us
and it's just great to see the reaction on people's faces! I should
say a big thank you to the stall holders at the Christmas markets
for allowing us to parade in front of their stalls!" said
Juliana Landim, fundraising co-ordinator for Batala and Managing
Director for BrazUKa
Band member Gary Collins said:- "We could only be a small band
on Saturday because of space limitations, but the whole band turned
up and we took turns to drum and take the buckets into the crowd. I
couldn't believe the amount of money people were donating. From £20
notes to people emptying the change from their purses. All at a time
when money is tight, and also the most expensive time of the year.
It made me so proud to be a scouser and very proud to a part of this
amazing band"
The £5000 was achieved by bucket collections on the Saturday and via
the band members family and friends who sponsored them to keep on
drumming on the Sunday too at the Santa Dash, but Batala are hoping
more will come in The
online donation form is
available until 14 December 2013.
Batala Liverpool would like to say a huge thank you to all the
people in Liverpool, Liverpool City Council, City Central BID,
Delifonseca, Open Culture, Santa Dash, Gary Miller, Alan Henagen,
Dave Ellison Photography, Kap'n Kaos Videos, Gardner Mawdsley Print,
Desktop Print, BrazUKa and of course Father Christmas who came along
to shake his booty.
