THE SOLID SILVER 60's SHOW 2013

IT was 50 years ago, in 1963, that US President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, Martin Luther King delivered his 'I have a dream' speech, the Profumo Scandal caused resignations amongst the cabinet, the Great Train Robbery took place, the films 'The Birds' and 'The Great Escape' were released, and, Beatlemania took over. The same year, The Searchers, The Merseybeats, Dave Berry and Wayne Fontana and The Mindbenders released their debut singles. . . .

Now in its 28 year, the Solid Silver 60s Show 2013 is definitely something quite special, so come join the 50 anniversary celebrations at 42 venues across the UK and it has already played in Southport, so the 24 April 2013 will be your last chance to see the show, on Merseyside! With Mike Pender – original voice of The Searchers, Dave Berry, Wayne Fontana, The Merseybeats and New Amen Corner, take a trip down memory lane as they celebrate 50 years in the business. Relive the golden era of music with the original hits performed by five of the most popular artists of the 60s.

Commonly referred to as a British institution, The Solid Silver 60's Show is the original 60's touring show. As Flying Entertainments joint managing director Derek Nicol says:- The music and songs remain timeless and perhaps that's why the audiences still turn up today. As long as the audiences want it and the artists are able to perform, we will keep delivering. You just have to watch and listen to an audience at a SS60s show to appreciate their enjoyment and feel proud that we have delivered that enjoyment for so many years and will continue to do so.”

MIKE PENDER

Mike Pender is the original voice of the Searchers. His rich vocal talent can be heard on many of the hit records that went on to become 60's classics. Who can forget The Searchers debut single 'Sweets for My Sweet'topping the charts in 1963, 'Sugar And Spice' (No.2 in 1963), 'Needles and Pins' (No.1 in 1964), and 'Don't Throw Your Love Away' (No.1 in 1964), some of the greatest ever records to come out of the greatest ever period in pop music history. Mike's vocals and his equally distinctive 12-string 'jangly' guitar epitomised The Searchers sound. Little wonder that most observers considered The Searchers to be the most successful and important group after the Beatles. Along with the classic hits from Pender's many years with The Searchers expect a blend of popular rock standards by classic artists such as Buddy Holly, The Drifters and Roy Orbison.

DAVE BERRY

NME journalist Roy Carr described Dave Berry as the most original performer in British Rock!  Dave's heart has always remained in the 60's. His major hits included, 'Memphis Tennessee' (No.19 1963), 'The Crying Game' (No.5 1964), 'My Baby Left Me' (No.37 1964), 'Little Things' (No.5 1965) and 'Mama' (No.5 1966), and led to highly successful concert appearances at some of the most elite venues in the UK including the London Palladium and Royal Albert Hall. Dave's long career also brought him the distinction of having the biggest selling single of all time in Holland and Belgium with 'The Strange Effect', written for him by another 60's icon, Ray Davies of The Kinks. In 2011 Ray Davies – curator – invited Dave to appear at the Meltdown Festival, London with Ronnie Spector and Sandie Shaw.

WAYNE FONTANA

Wayne Fontana was one of the many talented artists to come out of Manchester during the 1960s beat boom. A firm favourite on the Solid Silver 60s tours, Wayne was an accomplished R&B singer and soon gained a huge  following of female admirers in the north of England!  With his band The Mindbenders he had hits with 'Hello Josephine' (No.46 1963), 'Um Um Um Um Um Um' (No.5 1964), 'Game of Love' (No.2 1965), 'Pamela Pamela' (No.11 1966) and 'Come On Home' (No.16 1966).

THE MERSEYBEATS

The Merseybeats are one of the true surviving bands from the Golden Age of '60s pop music. Formed in 1962 by Tony Crane and Billy Kinsley, they had their first hit single with 'It's Love That Really Counts' (No.24 1963), followed in 1964 by the million-selling 'I Think of You' (No.5). Kinsley briefly left the band in early 1964 to be replaced by The Big Three's Johnny Gustafson only to return later that year. Re-christened The Merseys in 1966, they had their biggest hit to date with 'Sorrow' (No.4) but Kinsley would leave the band once more. However, Crane continued to work as The Merseybeats with various line-ups that included Allan Cosgrove and Dave Goldberg. In 1974 Bob Packham joined the group as Bass Player and is still with them today. Billy Kinsley re-joined Tony Crane in 1993 and is still part of The Merseybeats which probably makes them the most genuine and authentic 60's band still performing today!

NEW AMEN CORNER

The New Amen Corner have emerged in the last couple of years as arguably the hottest band on the 60's circuit because of their ability to recreate so perfectly the sound and atmosphere of that momentous period when music sent good vibrations across the world. Their power house live show has made them one of the most exciting bands around, period clothing, authentic equipment and with the band encouraging their fans to don 60's attire, their shows really breath life back, into what must be music's most prolific decade.
